Water and Electricity

There is a shortage of both water and electricity in Ethiopia and we did our best to conserve both. This photo shows water tanks that are on the tops of the buildings. They haul water in on a truck and put it into these water containers with buckets.

The electricity went out daily from about noon until 9:30 p.m. There is some sort of schedule to this, but I could never exactly figure it out. We always had power in the morning though, which was great, because I do not have wash and wear hair. In the evening they would turn the generator on so we would have lights. The generator does not power the elevator, however. We were on the 5th floor, so we got a bit of exercise. The only times we didn't have any kind of power at all was in the afternoon.
