Here is some video on the way to Alaba that highlight the fact the roads are not only for cars in Ethiopia. We don't have an image stabilizer on our camera, so if you tend to get motion sickness, you may want to skip this.
The trip was not like anything I have ever experienced before. The road to Alaba was constantly being crossed by cows, goats, donkeys, and people. Driving in Ethiopia is perilous, we only saw 2 working traffic lights in Addis the entire time we were there. For the life of me I could not figure out how they determine whose turn it is to go. Alemu told us Ethiopia is #1 in the world for traffic accidents and this seems completely plausible.
That night we slept at a hotel with a super fancy shower, unfortunately the only came in two temperatures, cold and not cold (which was maybe 10 degrees off of cold).
